Aside from The Lion King, which I put in a class by itself, Mamma Mia! is the best musical I have seen - ever. That’s not a hard statement to make because I haven’t seen that many road tour Broadway stage productions.
But I’m telling ya, this was a fantastic production at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC). Here’s how good it was - it convinced me that we should buy season tickets again for next year. We previously looked over the upcoming shows and decided that we weren’t that excited by the schedule.
But I’ve thought that before, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Shampoo is a good example. I wasn’t crazy about going, but it was the middle of winter and there was nothing else to do. It was fun. The Spelling Bee I thought would be enjoyable and it exceeded my expectations.
I had limited expectations for Mamma Mia! but again - FANTASTIC. Orchestra, story, singers, dancers, lighting - everything was FANTASTIC.
I liked this play a lot.
