I don’t even remember the name of this movie that this image was used to promote, but it’s in theaters now.
When serious people are addressing racism and stereotypes in the workplace how do they deal with movies like Norbit and others that reinforce stereotypes?
Figuring out how to react when a co-worker makes a racist joke can be extremely difficult. If you don’t call the person out on her racism, you seem to be condoning the behavior. But if you do say something, you risk alienating him and sabotaging your working relationship.
How would you describe the above picture to a co-worker without resorting to all kinds of stereotypes?
The only current PC way to handle a racist/stereotype joke, is not to laugh, unless of course you are a member of that particular race/stereotype, then you can not only laugh, you can tell the joke. For example, YOU can’t laugh at comments about women with beards belonging in the circus, but I can tell all the jokes I want to about that subject.
