Monster Founder; Eons Founder Says Die Boomer Die

Jeff Taylor, the founder of the successful Monster.com employment site and the unsuccessful boomer site Eons.com is going after death.

He thinks he can make money from a website that has obits.

Taylor, who founded Monster.com, finally realized that what his dwindling members wanted was a social network, not a portal for Sunsetters. Most of the intense activity was around the groups on the site, and so that is where he is focusing his efforts now. He also realized that nobody wants to go to a social network to be reminded about death.

The author of the post throws out all the ageist comments boomer bloggers have read dozens of times, summarized here:

I wish people that write about boomers could be more original. It’s more fun. Die Boomers Die hasn’t posted since November. I miss them.

Here are some topics for un-boomers to write about boomers:

  • don’t know how to drive
  • talk funny
  • dress weird
  • drive up the cost of pot
  • are ugly
  • don’t work hard enough

If you take on one or all of those topics, please link back. I’d love the chance to write about something other than being old an stupid.

Are you talking about little old ladies who can’t drive, bless their hearts?

Am I the only one who finds it disturbing how social websites are THE thing. We’re such shallow creatures.

@Queen of Shake Shake: boomers are not old! Have you heard that now on Facebook you can have “top friends.” Lame-o.

You forgot a couple, of which I am reminded every day that I age:

    boomers are deaf (tinnitis)
boomers are blind (bifocals and counting)

Maybe those contribute to the “boomers can’t drive” phenomenon.

BTW, I once posted my resume on monster.com. Not only did I get no action whatsoever, when I got a job and tried to take my resume off, I couldn’t. Then I kept getting annoying email from monster.com for THREE YEARS. I even sent threatening email saying get my resume off and delete me from the system. Still nothing. I think I finally timed out. Screw monster.com (I almost used that pesky f-word. Heh.)

@me again: I put in things to write about that were not true to go along with boomers are old and boomers are stupid.

I also have tinnitus. Let’s swap stories: email me!
And trifocals with an extra pair of glasses for computer stuff.
