McCain Not Born in U.S.

No politics, just a factoid that I had not heard before. McCain came from huge birth canal.

McCain’s place of birth - in the Panama Canal Zone - may become an issue in his quest for the Oval Office. The Constitution stipulates that only “natural-born citizens” can hold the highest office, and there’s never been a clear definition of what that means when it comes to citizens not born on US soil.

Wonder what Barack Hussien Obama will have to say about that? And Hillary too.

Well, it’s pretty clear he’s American-born; I don’t think a legal challenge would stand up. I should be so lucky. I don’t like that guy; he’s pro-censorship.

@Gretchen: I gotta think he’s certainly got a legal opinion on this. But it sure could be challenged. If it comes down to a Bush/Gore type deal, then look out.
But the Panama Canal is not U.S. soil - anymore. Remember, we gave it back to them!

Hey, blow up Panama — there’s an idea. I’m sure they’re on his list, somewhere. (Part of the Axis of Evil, perhaps?)

Anyway, Wiki says:

In 1953, Congress passed legislation to specify the status of Americans born in the Canal Zone–and to exclude non-Americans born there from citizenship. Title 8, Section 1403 of the United States Code grants citizenship to those born in the Canal Zone with at least one parent who is a United States citizen. This differs from the provision in the Fourteenth Amendment which grants citizenship to all born in the United States, regardless of parental nationality.

McCain’s parents were U.S. citizens, so I think he’s in. Otherwise he might have to blow HIMSELF up.
