Baby Boomer guy writing about stuff of interest primarily to boomers, or people who know one. No politics, few rants, attempted humor. Suitably old, mysteriously advanced.

Oh for gods sake, I didn't see this but it sounds like I missed an entirely pathetic show. What is wrong with Favre these days?

[...] And I thought Favre was bad! Watch this for a minute and see a grown man blubber like he just lost his SUV to a DEA agent. They cut away, but OMG, the sound. Puh-leeze. ESPN interviewed a bawling Dickie V for its story on SportsCenter and then showed a list of the other guys that made it–including PATRICK EWING AND HAKEEM OLAJUWON!!!. Lets see……this year’s class includes Patrick Ewing, perhaps the best player in New York Knicks history and a top-five center; Hakeem Olajuwon, a player many consider (including me) to be the best center of the modern era and winner of two NBA titles; and Pat Riley, one of the best coaches in league history…..and the four-letter network decides to run the interview of Vitale sobbing like a little girl with a skinned knee over and over again like its some touching moment.
@Joy: How many times have you heard of an athlete competing after the loss of a family member? It happens a lot, so I'm painting them all with a the same brush. The are self centered and pampered.

Welp, we agree....on one thing. Playing a game after a close relative dies. Because he loved the game and hanging around the funeral home is depressing....yep, I think that's exactly why he played the game. But...I'm not ready to tar and feather him for that.

Oh, and we agree on one other thing....Roger Clemens is as guilty as hell.

@Joy: welp, we disagree. If his dog had died, I could understand it, but otherwise, he should get a grip.

I also don't buy it when atheletes play a game after a close relative dies. ie: Favre playing after his dad died - "because that's what he would have wanted." Bull. He played because he loved the game, and hanging around the funeral home is depressing. I'd like to hear a jock say that once.

Fortunately I will never have to face that situation of having a press conference when I retire, so I can be Mr. Iron Man.
