WALL*E is Johnny 5’s Abandoned Love Bot

Posted by: goinglikesixty   in Baby Boomer

When I first saw Wall-E, (above) I knew he was the spawn of Johnny 5:

When I saw the trailer for Wall-E before Indiana Jones and the Temple-of-Crystal-Headed-Aliens-That-Buried-Their-Stupid-Lame-Ass-Flying-Saucer (caution that was a spoiler) I knew Wall-e was going to be a smash. It’s Pixar, it’s Toy Story and Monsters Inc. It will be (is) a great movie, with tons of merchandising opportunities.

But Johnny 5, from the movie Short Circuit isn’t getting the credit he deserves. Wall-e is the spawn of Johnny 5. Memorable line from Short Circuit ” Number Five is Alive!

I thought Wall-E was Johnny 5 when I first saw the trailer. I’m surprised that you’re the first blogger to point out the obvious…

@Krissi: Yes, you should always come here first for the latest and best information about the world around you. Especially when it involves the painfully obvious.

Yah, like no crap, you know? Short Circuit was really big in the mid-’80s, along with that dreadful DeBarge song (”Who is Johnny”). One of Erika’s favorite movies; completely unknown to my younger tier. I have been making the same Wall-E/#5 comparison verbally at home for what, 4 months now?

We have to go see Wall-E “manana en la manana”. I hope it doesn’t suck very badly. Getting good reviews though.

@Gretchen: you know how trailers are, but it looks very cute. I liked Toy Story and Monsters Inc, so I’m sure I will like Wall-e.

Well, we saw it. Visually gorgeous but the Pixar short animated film they showed beforehand was worth the price of admission. Also, Boolie got bored and we had to leave a half-hour before the movie ended, so we amused ourselves in the lobby watching a group of 13-year-olds getting thrown out of the new Angelina Jolie movie.

From the size of the crowds, looks to me like Wall-E is a blockbuster. God bless John Lasseter. Now if they would just make Toy Story 3, Matt’s life would be complete.
