Well, you don’t have to change many of Herman’s lyrics to “I’m Into Something Good.” I woke up this morning and I was feeling fine, there’s something special on my mind. Last night, I met a new girl in the neighborhood, something tells me I’m into something good.
Sunday Nancy and I will celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary. Four-Oh. Forty. F-F-F-Forty.
We dated in high school, went to different colleges, but still dated and got “marred” on August 17, 1968. Let me digress to explain “marred.” My roomie in college was/is a great cartoonist and designer. But he couldn’t spell shit if you spotted him the “s” and the “h.” He made a very kewl sign for the rear of our wedding car that were characteratures of Nancy and I… JUST MARRED.
I woke up this morning and I’m feeling fine, there’s something special on my mind.
Yeah, that’s true. Maybe because we’re getting outta town tomorrow.
Last night, I met a new girl in the neighborhood.
Nancy wasn’t the “new girl”, but she was the “newer” girl. She moved into our school system when she was a sophmore (I think.) Small school, so we “met” because it a class of 100 kids, you know everybody, and we had some classes together.
She’s the kind of girl who’s not too shy.
Oh boy, is that an understatement… from her cheerleader days to her leading S.E.X. Trips now. It is never a dull moment at our house. Never.
And I can tell I’m her kind of guy
I couldn’t tell at the time. I was a dork, she was a friggin’ cheerleader! She had been dating other guys. My first real date. My first real girlfriend. My first “real” kiss. *Ahem* a lot of firsts…
She danced close to me like I hoped she would
Ha! I didn’t dance, didn’t know how, didn’t know how to learn. She finally wore me down and I asked her to go to a dance at the high school. But, I borrowed my Grandpa’s crutches and showed up with them, and concocted a story. Would have worked except she caught me going through a gate and not using them.
Something tells me I’m into something good.
Yeah, I’m damn lucky. The longer I live, the luckier I am. She should have dumped me any number of times, but we managed to work through the tough times to make it to F-F-F-Forty.
We are taking our honeymoon. Something tells me I’m in for something good.
I love you, Nancy.
(Yeah, I’m saying that just because I want something!)

You two are an inspiration.
