FAO Schwarz Giant Keyboard Rocks to Bach Toccata

Remember the movie Big that starred Tom Hanks? It was Benjamin Button except with a carnival wizard. The Tom Hanks character was a kid who made a wish to be big so he could get the girl. The wish came true and got a dream job as a toy designer.

I loved the scene where the kid and the boss play a giant keyboard at FAO Schwarz.

Who knew that there really was an FAO Schwarz keyboard?

Who knew that the FAO Schwarz keyboard was still around?

Who knew that FAO Schwarz apparently hired two women to play Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D-Minor?

Congress Kills Our Free Travel on Southwest

The credit card companies need to clean up their act. But they will not change willingly so it takes an Act of Congress.
I think the last time the credit card companies acted like they really wanted our business, Rod Stewart was a Young Turk.
The last time the gummit got involved to big extent, they took away the tax deduction for all consumer loan debt, including credit card debt. Thanks Ronnie! Of course, we were head over heels in consumer loan debt, and that hit us pretty hard. We didn’t change our spending habits, so that amounted to a big tax increase.
We’re now free of credit card debt, but we still use our Southwest Airlines Visa card for EVERYTHING. Because we like to fly free on Southwest Airlines.  After Toronto, Milwaukee was our next target.
Southwest still has the best plan when it comes to earning free travel. For every $1200 charged on Visa,  Southwest Airlines awards one credit. Sixteen credits earns a free round trip ticket anywhere Southwest flies.
We earn about four free tickets a year, and have been averaging that for a decade.

I anticipate that credit card companies will begin charging interest from time of purchase, rather than giving us time to pay them off completely and earn those free rewards. After all Congress took away all those other fees and terms and conditions that they leveraged into gigantic revenue streams.

If that’s the case, our credit cards will go away and we’ll start using a debit card, and (sigh) start paying for airline tickets. Southwest will probably still get the bulk of our travel biz because the are the Low Cost Airline that flys in and out of NashVegas.

Bummer.

1. Gas prices are rising again. It picked this weekend to reach the highest it’s been in a long time because THAT’S when I’ll need to refill my tank.

2. My feet stink. What happened? I thought women’s feet were supposed to smell like flowers or potpourri or something.

3. Cheap pizza tends to taste like cheap pizza.

4. My cats stubbornly refuse to grow opposable thumbs so they can scoop their own poop.

5. Still having ridiculous ISP trouble. Lousy service. Ignorant employees. Where’s the mafia when I need them? This has been going on for a whole week already!

Single Mom’s Mother’s Day Treat

I’m not a single Mom, probably never will be, but Nancy has a friend that is and she has a young daughter. For the past few years, Nancy has called and made arrangements to pick up the daughter and take her Mother’s Day shopping.

Her mom knows about it, provides the money, etc. etc.

Nancy just totes her to the store, steers her away from the Hello Kitty stuff, gets it gift-wrapped, remembers the card and she makes a single mom’s Mother’s Day special for both.

I think Nancy likes it too.
