If Celtic Woman is Hot in Louisville, I Wonder How The Kentucky Headhunters Would Do in Dublin?

It’s fundraising time for Kentucky Educational Television. (At least two oxymorons?) This means they are rolling out the concert and special event programming.

I am captivated by the Celtic Woman group. I’ve watched bits and pieces of the concert the past few evenings (they always lose me during the pitch to send money to help pay for watching.)

The crawl line says for a bunch of money, I can go to Louisville, Kentucky to see them in concert and hang out with them back stage. (After the performance…if they threw in a “during costume changes” level, they might get more donations.)

As I stare at these beautiful young things and listen to their voices, I wonder if The Kentucky Headhunters would play as well on Irish television.
In other words, would Grandad at Headrambles.com and his cronies at the pub be as interested in these guys:

as I am in these girls:

Celtic Woman

Celtic Woman

HAR.
Even though I’m sure Grandad and the other Irish dudes (lads? guys? fellows?) would love to hear

  • The Ballad Of Davy Crockett
  • Oh, Lonesome Me
  • Redneck Girl
  • Spirit In The Sky
  • It’s Chitlin’ Time
  • Honky Tonk Walkin

by The Kentucky Headhunters as much as I love to hear

  • Pie Jesu
  • Danny Boy
  • Mo Ghile Mear
  • Amazing Grace
  • Níl Sé’n Lá

by Celtic Woman, looking at these Irish babes makes the music sweeter.  Yep, the definition of a pig. I would rather watch Kelli Pickler than Susan Boyle in concert.
So shoot me.

Nancy said I had the chance to see Celtic Woman in concert in Nashvegas, but turned it down. When she saw the concert in Hi Def on our BATV, I think she understood that I would rather see over-produced lipped syncing on Tee Vee than the real thing.
So shoot me.

Then play Pie Jesu at my funeral. And if you want the last laugh, make it the Kentucky Headhunters version.

Pie Jesu, (4x) Kind Jesus,
Qui tollis peccata mundi Who takes away the sins of the world,
Dona eis requiem. (2x) Grant them rest.

The Kentucky Headhunters version:
Holy Jesus, (4x)
Ain’t y’all binwatchin cuzzin?
Need ya jess stanback a piece
Donna is hungover!

(Good luck on getting the phrasing right on those lyrics. I think it helps if you down a pint of bourbon first.)

Britian’s Got Talent Winner Isn’t Susan Boyle, It’s Diversity.

The best act on Britian’s Got Talent was not Susan Boyle (Link to Video of announcement)

It was a bunch of loser dancers called Diversity.

It’s American Idol all over again.

susanboylescowls

Susan Boyle was totally calm, but scowling, before the winner was announced. Afterwards, she took the high road and was gracious.

Dancers. Meh. Punks

Susan Boyle, Baby Boomer, Yay.

Diversity/Kris Allen, trivia answers in about six months.

Susan Boyle/Adam Lambert – vocal recording artists and stars.

Here’s Diversity, the winners of Britian’s Got Talent 2009

Susan Boyle Will be Played By Catherine Zeta Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Proving that makeup can do anything Catherine Zeta-Jones will play  Susan Boyle in a James Cameron movie. Zeta-Jones has been yammering about playing the frumpy songstress, Susan Boyle and James Cameron is shopping script ideas.

I loved Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago and she has the chops to do the singing and acting. But really, shouldn’t Kathy Bates have been the choice?

Hollie Steel May Give Susan Boyle Comeuppance

Simon Cowell hated Hollie Steel flitting about the stage of Britain’s Got Talent in her tutu doing ballet, until she opened her mouth and this big voice began singing “I Could Have Danced All Night.” His hand was poised over the X button ready to buzz her outta there.

Who would you pick? Hollie Steel or Susan Boyle to win Britain’s Got Talent? Little girl who doesn’t know the talent she has? Or a woman who maybe frumped herself up to get audience sympathy?

Simon said Hollie Steel’s talent was just the tip of the iceberg.
I’m wondering where her voice goes as she matures.

I’m still rooting for the Geezer broad – Susan Boyle.

Susan Boyle Proves American Idol Yet to Discover Real Talent

The British version of American Idol has discovered some real bonafide talent, Susan Boyle, unlike American Idol which tends to focus on a “marketable” performer.

Britian’s Got Talent has Simon Cowell in his usual form, Piers Morgan, and Amanda Holden. Performers audition and make it to the stage where they can be voted of Gong Show style. The season’s discovery is Susan Boyle, the cat lady.

But the performers are not all singers. There is no age limit.

This is not Susan Boyle

This is not Susan Boyle

Have you heard Paul Potts sing? He won the competition the first season.

This season’s star is Susan Boyle. Take one look at her face and her dress and her age (47), everything about her… and you might have given a sideways smirk too. But her voice!

Here’s what Piers Morgan said about her baffling performance-

I can remember the moment she first opened her lips perfectly. We were at a big theatre in Glasgow, 3000 people were laughing their heads off, Simon and Amanda were stifling a chuckle, and then she started to sing.

And I can honestly say it was one of the most extraordinary moments in my perhaps equally unlikely career as a talent show judge.

Because Susan Boyle is not just a good singer, she’s a fantastic singer. Someone whose stunning range, tone and delivery is worthy of comparison to anyone – Elaine Paige included.
