Honor African Heritage by Naming an Elephant
Choose Jonesy, Scotty, or Angus.
Although people were encouraged to submit African names befitting the African elephant calf, the zoo staff picked three names they thought fit the infant pachyderm’s character.
Campbell was among about a half-dozen elephant keepers and a zoo public relations person or two who helped winnow the names to three.
He said he voted for Jonesy because a man named Jones taught him “how to work elephants.”
A man named Scott is a friend who helped deliver the elephant calf, Campbell said.
And, he said, “There used to be a male elephant in Canada named Angus who was a great big guy. I thought they were good names.”
Sheesh, 7000 names submitted and they choose their friend’s names.
