Matthew Creamer, Advertising Age columnist, says Boomers have found another way to irritate anybody that is not a boomer. We like to use emoticons. 🙂

A new study from the online media company Zango found that of people 18 and over who downloaded its toolbar boomers are “by far the most prolific users.

The only reason so many Zango users are older is because most younger people know that Zango contains spyware. This news is just a thinly disguised attempt to legitimize Zango’s business. Matthew says we boomers annoy him and because as a group we use emoticons it is a great insight into our generation.

Mark is sticking up for us because we are too stupid to know about spyware and we are running naked systems.

Yahoo also conducted a study and found:

Yahoo! recently conducted a survey related to the use of Emoticons in IM conversations.

• It’s a Girl Thing: 82% of respondents think that women are more likely to use emoticons than men.
• Happiness is most often using emoticon followed by Flirting.

Geeksugar says emoticons might be culturally misunderstood.

and that what looks like “money mouth” or “frown” to me might look like something else entirely to someone down the street or across the globe.
