Noob Bloggers Should Take Advantage of All The Tools of the Trade
See all those little icons at the bottom of the post? They can be great traffic builders. When Kirk upgraded me to WordPress 2.3, he asked about installing some plug-ins that he thought would be valuable.
The upgrade came from his original request to give commenters the option to be notified by email if somebody else commented on the same post. I thought that was a great idea and one thing led to another and Kirk added that feature.
The icons represent various social networks where posts can be easily submitted so that others may check them out and add their endorsement.
I had gotten slammed once with traffic from a post I did about Cancer because someone “Stumbled” the site: ie submitted it to “Stumbleupon.” It was a heady deal to see that big spike.
The plug in that Kirk added is obsocialbookmarker.
Add social book mark image links at the bottom of each post: bookmarks options includes del.icio.us, reddit, slashdot it, digg, facebook, technorati, google, stumble, windows live, tailrank, bloglines, furl, netscape, yahoo, blinklist, feed me links, co.mments, bloglines, bookmark.it, ask, diggita,Wink, LinkaGoGo, Rawsugar, Fark, Squidoo.
A couple days after he installed it, I got hit again with a big bump in traffic. Both spikes fell to original traffic levels, but it’s really fun to think that triple the number of regular readers checked me out one day.
I recommmend the plug-in, and always recommend Kirk if you need help.
Thanks for another plug Sixty, and a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! Don’t eat your way into the infirmery alright?
So far so good! And I do mean goooood!
