Go See “Charlie Wilson’s War”
Charlie Wilson’s War is a true story about a Congressman from Texas that made it possible for the U.S. to provide money to fund the Afgan war against the Soviet Union.
Tom Hanks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Julia Roberts give rewarding performances. Not award winning probably because they aren’t much an emotional stretch. Hanks plays a boozing womanizer, Hoffman a hard driving abrasive CIA operative, and Roberts is a Texas socialite.
It’s an interesting story that I didn’t know anything about, but fully believe happened. A Texas congressman sits on three committees that make it possible for him to increase funding for the CIA covert operations in Afganistan from $5 to $500 million.
It’s worth seeing.
A friend of mine dropped by my house just the other day on his way home after seeing CW’sW. First thing he said when he walked in the door was, “You better go ahead a fix me a drink right now.” He recommended seeing the movie, as well.
I want to read up and see how much was exaggerated. I don’t think the money part would be, but never know.
