What do I know? It Either Sucks or Blows.
I wonder when the first time a play-by-play announcer, or colored man will say a play, or player, sucks on national TV?
Like the Chargers suck.
Remember when saying “suck” was almost bad as the other word that starts with F?
I remember the first time I used suck in a business setting. I was criticized later for my coarse language. But the “big boss” said he appreciated my frankness. Now you hear it all over the place.
Females around me don’t use the work suck. But in the Bible Belt it’s still very conservative.
Kathy Griffin: “Suck this Jesus” when she got the Emmy was over the top. So it still can be used effectively, but only by a Jew talking about Jesus on national TV.
I don’t hear the phrase “it blows” much anymore. I wonder if that’s a regional thing? Considering the derivation of the terms, if it sucks, it blows too, correct?
Whatever. Heywood Jablome is still a lot more clever than Mike Hunt.
UPDATE: I just remembered the name of a furniture chain in SW FL: Badcock’s.
Does that name suck or blow? Or maybe it grows on you?
You wrote (“It sucks”) still can be used effectively, but only by a Jew talking about Jesus on national TV in referring to Kathy Griffin’s acceptance speech. Kathy Griffin is a lapsed Catholic, duh. If you’ve ever even seen her in concert or her tv show you would know that. The assumption that only a Jew would speak those words can only be interpreted as anti-Semitic. You obviously didn’t get her joke. Kathy was not putting down Jesus; she was making fun of award winners who thanked Jesus when they won. As if God doesn’t have anything better to be concerned about. It is a part of her stand-up routine.
Thank you for setting me straight on her religion. I got her joke. I have not seen her stand up routine, but she cracks me up. Along with Sarah Silverman.
