WordPress 2.5 Released too Early
WordPress 2.5 has been running on enough of my blogs that I think I can offer a layman’s opinion.
I wish it wasn’t so buggy. I’ve probably done 50 posts since it was installed last week.
2.5 was been out about 25 days and 2.5.1 released “fixing” over 70 known issues.
I use Mac and PC, prefer Firefox. I’m having to use Safari on Mac and IE on PC to get media to upload correctly.
I tried upgrading on of my simpler blogs (one widget.)
After three tries of downloading and uploading the three php files, with guidance from forums, I gave up and called in a pro.
I’m not a total klutz around FTP, but when the file says it’s uploaded, it indicates that everything is complete. I reasoned that all the files were there. I was told by the forum support this always wasn’t the case.
Whaaaa?
I have a blog that uses the “extra fields” option. Which is a fantastic feature – IF it ever gets to the point where it works. Currently, I need to have two extra fields, when I publish, only of the fields will publish. This requires me to go back, edit, add the second field and republish. If I just “save” the post and add the second field it doesn’t publish.
The media upload is still hinky too. If I post using IE or Safari, it works, if I post in Firefox, it doesn’t. Or maybe it’s the other way around.
There is way too much scrolling to write a publish a post also. The media uploader requires scrolling the post window requires scrolling. The categories list is in a scroll box.
I’m not displeased, but I thought by waiting 25 days after the often delayed release, I would have found a platform that would be almost bug-free.
But considering what I paid for the platform, it’s still the best dern deal in Waco.
I hate bugs, because they completely fuck up my day. I can just about barely blog with E-Z Blogger Lite for Morons. I don’t think I have the new WordPress, but I wouldn’t know. I have to pay Nothing But Bonfires’ boyfriend for stuff like that.
My main comfort is that my husband is way more computer stupid than I am. The guy? Doesn’t know how to type in a URL. He has to Google everything. Next to him, I’m Bill fucking Gates.

I hope things go better soon. I’m not much of a computer geek. I blog on TypePad.
I write a boomer consumer blog called The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide at http://boomersurvive-thriveguide.typepad.com.

@Gretchen: It’s a guy thing – I had to try it myself before I got a woman to fix it. Most of my Google traffic search terms are goinglikesixty.com!
@Rita: I’m not a geek either and don’t want to be. But I’m too cheap to hire someone until I get totally freaked out.
