Yes, I AM a Meme Machine, TED Told Me So.
Here, learn about Memes. More than you ever wanted to know about Memes. You thought Memes were a blogger link love trick. Me too.
Wrong Darwin breath.
Susan Blackmore: Imagine a world full of brains and far more memes than can possibly find homes!
In this video from TED, Susan Blackmore talks about memetics, the theory of memes – and how we should see that memes and genes ensured our survival and evolution. She says that we should think that we are passing on ideas through mimicry – and this mimicry or these memes use us as meme machines. She says that all other species are gene machines, we are gene and meme machines.
If you can take the time – it’s about 20 minutes long – halfway through she gets to technology memes or temes and that’s where it gets just whacko!
No go forth and meme. Become a meme machine!
She is the poster child for bloggers: Don’t Think Intelligence, Think Replicators.
Blackmore watched the Terminator too many times – her question is will the machines will use humans and therefore screw up the planet so we all die off?
The term “meme” is used a little differently today than it was 10 years ago. Today, you tag other bloggers with a meme. Back then, before blogs came into vogue, it was a sort of copycat or replication phenomenon on personal websites.
Google “Ate my Balls” and “All Your Base Belong to Us”.
