Rain is the Nectar of the Gods? or Angels Pissing?
There will be a rain dance tonight, weather permitting.”
–George Carlin
Which is it with you? Do you love the occasional shower and sometimes long for a real downpour?
Here are the qualities of people who think rain is simply lovely:
- Poets: a poet is someone who stands in the rain, waiting to be struck by lightening. James Dickey
- Own no dogs. Dogs do not ritually urinate in the hope of persuading heaven to do the same and send down rain.” Huxley
- Lives in SoCal and still remains an optimist. “The way I look at it, if you want the rainbow, you have to put up with the rain.” Dolly Parton
- The unabashed realist. “The best thing to do when it is raining, is let it rain.” Longfellow
- Lives where it rains, and still remains an optimist. “Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”
- Pragmatists. “It always seemed rather pointless to disapprove of homosexuality. Kind of like disapproving of rain.” Frances Maude (British MP who owned 20% of a porn queens empire.)
- The Painfully Odd. If I were running the world I would have it rain only between 2 and 5 a.m. Anyone who was out then ought to get wet.”
- Wierd scientists. The rain water enlivens all living beings of the earth.” Chanakya
Me, hate rain.
Check that.
Hate daytime rain. Let it rain at night.
I like trees and grass and flowers and all that stuff. I also don’t like chores, so having to water to get those benefits of being earth-bound is not appealing.
Rain is often the only way my car gets clean. I guess Mars has ice beneath the surface? That could be handy. The ice is where it’s needed, close to the roots.
I am *SO* glad you decided I was merely a pragmatist instead of “painfully odd”

Nope, I, fortunately or unfortunately as the case may be, am the “Painfully Odd” one here. Always have been I’m afraid. At least Sixty’s given me a label that I have no problem living up to.
I can live with that.

One must always realize one’s place in life, yes?
