International Rock Flipping Day: The First Sunday in September
Sunday is International Rock Flipping Day. I did an advance flip and found just roll ups and ants and slugs and stuff that Bug Girl can help me identify if she is inclined.
I didn’t flip a rock, I flipped a patio block. We don’t have any decent rocks in our yard. Here is the first flip with the assortment of critters. (click thumbs to enlarge)
When I put it back, this spider appeared. It was about the size of a half-dollar (anybody remember those?)
And, extra added attraction… when we were in Belize we saw lots of these termite nests in the trees.
The guide took his machete and wacked off the side of the paper-like stuff to show us the termites. He said (please correct me if this is wrong) that the termites would have this repaired in a day or two. They use the termite nests as bait – dumping it in the river and the fish are attracted by the termites abandoning ship.
So… Go Flip A Rock on Sunday.
