Hard Working Dog Suffers Ultimate Indignancy
Dogs are awesome. Ferguson is one of our granddogs. He also is a Therapy Dog. Amy spent a lot of time at Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers, FL recovering from a brain aneurysm so she picked this way to give back to them by taking Ferg to the hospital to meet patients.
When Amy would go for rehab, they referred to it as “going to school.” So now Ferguson “goes to school” once a week with Amy and they visit patients solely for the patients to pet Ferg and get a sloppy wet kiss (on the hand – from Ferg – well maybe Amy too, she hasn’t said.)
Not just any dog can be a Therapy Dog, there is a rigorous screening by trainers for both the dog and the handler. Neither one can bite. Licking, OK, biting, no.
SIL (Saint Todd deCubbville) is an electronical wizard, so today Ferg is in the Christmas Spirit and is decorated with Christmas lights. I’m a little shocked that he isn’t decked out in LED’s since that is Saint Todd deCubbville’s latest kick!
UPDATE: turns out this was a visit to a “real” school. Ferguson also goes to an elementary school and kids read to him. That’s it… Ferg sits and pants, the kids read. It’s been a huge success with slow readers getting lots of confidence because the dog doesn’t care about their reading “problems.”
‘dogs are awesome’
madame, i like the cut of your jib!
How inspiring Fergie sounds. I know a boat Captain who runs a fishing boat who also trains dogs for the blind, seeing eye dogs, and he often brings his students on board with him or down to the dock. They are always the most polite and gentle sweet creatures to meet. It must be heartbreaking to see them go when he is done with them, but how wonderful to know you are doing good for someone. I have only ever had mundane dogs, but treat them nicely with herbal pet products. http://www.doggieherbs.com

@Nooter: down boy down!
My real email name IS mailto:HandCuffMonkFish@aol.com
handcuffmonkfish@aol.com . I am a freelance writer and I have written for fishing magazines for twenty years. The name is derivative of HandcuffedMonkey, an old screen name I had on AOL which got lost when an account was closed some years ago. The meaning of that was in regard to the 10,0000 monkey theorom, which if you are familiar with is the probability theory that were you to take ten thousand monkeys and chain them to typewriters, yes typewriters, I am that old, I am a grandfather, they would eventually, given an infinite amount of time because of the laws of probability, would eventually reproduce the works of Shakespeare by pur chance. The “FISH” part is because I am an avid fisherman and because of my fishing magazine editor positions and writing work. I assure you, that is a REAL email address, and is even the one I use in business. Best regards, Bill Purkins, aka HandCuffMonkFish@aol.com.
@Bill P: Thanks. Since you run a site you know how clever spammers can be. I’ll add your link back.
