Hey Baby Boomer! Take Off Will Ya?
Contrary to a lot of other boomers, Nancy and I are blowing it.
We’re spending money.
Remember the bumper sticker on the back of the oversized motor home… We’re Spending Our Kids Inheritance… There never was an inheritance for our kids. So my bumper sticker would have read, We Spent All We Have.
A few years ago, I thought maybe, if I caught a good break, there could possibly be enough in our piggy bank to retire on when I was Going Like Seventy. Yeah, we caught the same break all baby boomers did.
Poof! El-vapo-rato.
Our solution is simple, and you should follow our lead. Spend money. Frivolously. Buy stuff you don’t need, but want. Nancy will start drawing Social Security this summer.
We’ll blow it.
We just bought a 50 inch TeeVee, hopefully the Smart car will be arriving soon, and we’re going to Boston in June.

You can thank me when you get home.
Or we may just move to Costa Rica. I wonder how long it would take to drive there? Can you get there without driving through Mexico? Mexico scares me anymore.
I think I feel another international vacation coming on.
In life, nothing is guaranteed. I say spend the money on fun things–why not? And about Costa Rica, I’ve thought about escaping there too. And Argentina, on a big wine estate. Or someplace super tropical…

@Marissa: You should escape there – you’re young and carefree! We did spend money on fun things early on, that’s why it was iffy. No if’s left!
Unfortunately you do have to drive through Mexico to get to Costa Rica. Thank goodness there are many wonderful places (as you have pointed out ) to fly or sail to. I dream of the West Indian Islands. Thanks for stimulating the economy.

Well, then consider it done! Now, to start saving for the escape…

@Escape fund. Much better than a “retirement” fund. Good luck, if we make it first, we’ll save you a spot.
It’s a deal!

Sounds really good to me! We need a new grill too!
Nancy…also wrote this…Dumped puppy! Do you want her?
The grill is fine. The grill is not a “want” it is an essential part of life.
This was great Sixty! I’m glad you and your wife are enjoying life now and agree with Marissa and would add, you just never know what will happen from one day to the next so enjoy! 🙂
Hugs ~ Sandy
Sixty….I have A PLAN, too. I’m just not gonna file my taxes. I figure with all the activity going on in the government now, they won’t discover that I didn’t file my taxes for a few years. Then, they’ll go after me. But, I figure it will take a few more years before they get serious about it. Of course, I’ll get a lawyer (from Legal Aid) and he/she will file apeal after apeal. When it finally comes down to the wire, I’ll probably be dead. So, I’m one up on you. I’m not just spending what could have been my kid’s inheritence, I’m spending MY money that the gov. claims is IT’s money.
Neither really needs my money. The gov has PLENTY to bail out crooked companies with and my kids are able to work just like I did.
Getting older does have it’s perks for sure.
Enjoy your big TV. I bought one about a year ago. And, just bought a new car. I’m just wondering what to blow money on next. You do have some good suggestions. Vacation? Sounds great.

@Trailerparkbarbie: Awesome. I don’t agree with not paying taxes because the government trough needs filling too.
I’m glad you are on the spend-wagon. It’s what we need to do to get things rolling. More to come later in a post.

@Lucien Piccard: Or we could spend it on luxury watches and watch the time tick away.
