Islamic Center Victim of NIMBY Where There Is No BY
I am truly flabbergasted that 68% of Americans are against the building of the Islamic Center/ Mosque a couple blocks away from what is being called Ground Zero.
A recent Marist poll revealed only 31% of Manhattan residents are against the Islamic Center. People who live near Ground Zero are basically OK with another mosque being built in the neighborhood.
This map shows the mosques currently in Manhattan. The new Islamic Center/ Mosque will only be 680 feet closer than an existing mosque.
This is another solid indication that the First Amendment is irrelevant to most people. People have been willing to curtail free speech for a number of years, now this craziness is expanding to restricting freedom to worship. Expect next that the American citizenry will find a reason to stop the peaceable assembly or to petition the government.
Expect the Tea Partiers to be at the forefront of repealing the First Amendment along with the repeal of the 14th Amendment. And some libs are willing to deal on these issues.
Maybe what we need to do is exercise a bit of constitutional leverage on this absurd debate surrounding the 14th Amendment. No more birthright citizenship in exchange for no more corporate personhood. Deal?
The Islamic Center should be a total non-issue. Instead, weirdos are using this to attack Muslims all over the country.
The latest attack on a faith came yesterday when some wingnuts decided that Florence, Kentucky shouldn’t have a new mosque because it was too close to Ground Zero.
anti-Islam activists are seeking to recruit protesters to demand a halt to plans since 2008 to build a mosque in Florence, Kentucky, with claims that the local mosque is part of an effort in the “takeover of our country.”
This follows on the heels of the forward-thinking Christians who are blocking a mosque in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Temecula, California.
And the most powerful Republican in the U.S., and 2012 G.O.P. presidential nominee, Newt Gingrich, compares the building of a mosque with erecting a sign next to a holocaust museum.
“Nazis don’t have the right to put up a sign next to the holocaust museum in Washington,” Gingrich insisted, speaking of the museum where just a year ago a guard was killed by a white supremacist trying to enter the building with a gun.
Whuck?
I got my new passport yesterday, and flipped through it to make sure it wasn’t a recycled one from some terrorist or some Tea Partier.
This is printed on one of the pages where the stamps go:
“The cause of freedom is not the cause of a race or a sect, a party or a class-it is the cause of human kind, the very birthright of humanity.”
~ Anna Julia Cooper.
Who if some of the same people that are ranting against Muslims had their way, would be picking the cotton in my back yard and washing the skid marks from my underwear. But her race would have their own drinking fountains and schools.
Should have never elected a foreign-born, Muslim-African as president. It’s his fault.
Hey 60 I believe you are right
BTW have you pulled out of the TH community?
Nice to hear a voice of reason!
Hi there! I realize this is kind of off-topic however I had to ask. Does operating a well-established website like yours require a lot of work? I’m completely new to operating a blog but I do write in my journal on a daily basis. I’d like to start a blog so I can easily share my experience and thoughts online. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or tips for new aspiring bloggers. Appreciate it!
