Women Getting Tutored on The Nookie
I witnessed what I consider a pretty amazing site last night.
Nancy was untangling a ball of yarn and didn’t want to sit at home. I suggested Panera because the have a nice cozy fireplace and yummy treats.
We went to Barnes & Noble.
I plopped myself down in a big overstuffed chair and began to read. Nancy picked a spot in the cafe. Soon she wandered over and tempted me with a hot Chai Tea to sit in the straight-back wooden chair .
After a while a bunch of women started arriving and swarmed around us. It was Tuesday night knitting at Barnes & Noble.
Since Nancy is never without her NEW Nookcolor, it became a topic of conversation – or one of the topics since there are always at least two going at once.
She sold her Nook to a friend so she could upgrade, and others had gotten Nooks for Christmas. They showed up with them because there was a Nook Tutoring session!
We’re talking about an electronic book.
- Turn on Nook.
- Find book.
- Buy book.
- Download book.
- Read book.
But there were a dozen people sitting in folding chairs paying close attention to the demonstration. Amazing! People will walk in to the Big Store With Blue Shirt Punks and walk out with $9,000 worth of electronic gear and go home without a thought of in-store training.
Barnes & Noble has the superior product in Nook, with the superior customer support with a bricks and mortar location and live people in a kiosk who just can’t wait to help, and Amazon.com’s Kindle is selling like crazy.
But Barnes & Noble isn’t sitting still – enter the Nook2…
Nobody seems to know what the Nook2 is.
Speculation is that it will have an Android browser coming in January.
Apps! Nook with Apps!
Browser! Nook with Browser!
Basically it will be another tablet computer.
Take that Apple.
I’m guessing NookApps has been trademarked and domain name purchased.
Other possibilities for specialty version Nooks:
- NookWook – The Star Wars Saga Edition, complete with fuzzy cover
- NookGook – Cleaning the Stuff out of Your Dog’s Eyes
- NookHook – Fishing! Get Hooked With A Nook
- NookCrook – Phishing!
And yes, Nookie was mentioned. Only. About. A. Thousand. Times. I need to start going to the knitting sessions more often. Except I can never figure out when to laugh. I’m the Nook Schnook.
So your wife goes to a bookstore to knit because she doesn’t want to do it at home alone with you and then ends up ignoring you with other knitters at a seminar on how to use a Nook? Can they hold a Nook and knit and talk and drink Chai tea all at the same time? You probably could have sneaked out to Panera’s un-noticed.
@Catch: Actually, she was untangling a mass of yarn! So she wasn’t even knitting, but otherwise:
