Sixty three years old and somebody finally told me I was an A+ type of guy.

I now know my blood type.

It only took moving to Costa Rica and paying a local lab $10 to learn it. After a living a life that included three major body traumas, and a fair amount of bleeding, one would figure that I knew my blood type.

One would be wrong, plasma-breath.

I know my height, weight and blood pressure, and pulse rate – these haven been reported to me every time I went to visit the doc in the U.S. I’ve had plenty of blood take from my body for various nefarious reasons.

But since I have never donated blood, I never asked or was informed of my blood type.

In Costa Rica the process is:

• Get blood typed at local lab.
• Have a physical exam by doctor. (Breathe, read one line on an eye chart, short medical history and current meds.)
• Show valid U.S. driver’s license along with a valid Visa.
• Pay a fee.

I  will take my A+ wife and Pat tomorrow and we will get our Costa Rica driver’s licenses. Pat speaks fluent Spanish and has been through the process. She’s a pal… an A+ type of woman and will hold our hands and interpret for us.
